Sometimes, even after our near and dear ones leave this world, we feel that they have not really left us. Their physical presence may be gone, but their memories, love and energy continue to remain around us. Many people believe that departed loved ones can still be spiritually connected with those they have left behind. But how do you know that someone who has passed away is near you?
You may suddenly remember them without any obvious reason. You may see them in a dream, hear a song that reminds you of them, find an object connected with them, or experience a strange sense of peace when thinking about them. Some people notice repeated symbols, familiar fragrances or unexpected coincidences. These experiences are often
described as signs from deceased loved ones. Science may interpret some
of these experiences through memory and emotions, while spirituality sees them
as possible signs of an ongoing spiritual connection.
If you want to feel closer to
your departed loved ones, begin with love rather than fear. Remember them with
gratitude. Speak to them silently in your heart. Pray for their peace. Do
something good in their memory. Feeding the poor, helping someone in need,
serving animals or performing an act of kindness can become a beautiful way of
expressing gratitude. The intention behind the action is often more important
than the ritual itself.
In Hinduism, the relationship
with ancestors has a deep spiritual meaning. Pitra Daan or offerings
made for ancestors are traditionally performed to honour departed family
members and express gratitude towards them.
Rituals such as Shraddha and
Tarpan are part of Hindu ancestral traditions, where water, food and
prayers are offered with reverence. These practices are not simply about trying
to communicate with the dead; they remind the living that their existence is
connected to generations that came before them.
The idea of ancestral
blessings is also deeply rooted in Hindu thought. Many believe that when
ancestors are remembered with respect and their duties are performed sincerely,
their blessings can bring peace and prosperity to the family.
Conversely, unresolved ancestral
obligations are sometimes associated with Pitru Dosha in Vedic
astrology. This should not necessarily be understood as a curse, but as a
spiritual reminder to honour one's lineage and fulfil one's responsibilities.
Perhaps the deepest way to honour
the dead is not merely to perform a ritual, but to live a life that would make
them proud. When you remember your departed loved ones with love rather than
grief, gratitude rather than regret, and prayer rather than fear, the invisible
bond becomes peaceful.
They may no longer walk beside you physically, but the love they gave you can remain within you. And sometimes, that is the most beautiful form in which the departed continue to live.
