Worrisome Tomorrow...

We all think about the future. We worry about our studies, careers, money, relationships and whether we will be successful. Thinking about the future is normal, but thinking about it all the time can make us stressed and unhappy. Many of us imagine different things that could go wrong and then start worrying about them. We ask ourselves, “What if I fail? What if things don't work out? What if something bad happens?” The funny thing is that many of the things we worry about never actually happen. We spend so much time worrying about tomorrow that we forget to enjoy today. The future is not in our hands completely. We can prepare for it, but we cannot know exactly what will happen.

The Bhagavad Gita gives us a very simple message about this. Lord Krishna says: “कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन” — “Karmanye vadhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachana.” It means: “You have control over your actions, but not over the results.” In simple words, do your best and don't worry too much about the outcome. For example, a student can study sincerely and prepare well for an exam, but cannot control the exact questions that will appear or the final marks. The student should focus on studying rather than spending every day worrying about the result. The same applies to life. We should work hard, make good choices and give our best, but understand that we cannot control everything.

This message is especially important for young people today. There is a lot of pressure to do well and become successful. We see other people's achievements on social media and sometimes feel that we are falling behind. We start comparing our lives with others and become worried about our own future. We may think that everyone else knows what they are doing, while we are still confused. But life is not a race, and everyone has a different journey.

It is okay not to have everything figured out at a young age. It is okay to make mistakes, change direction and start again. Instead of constantly thinking, “What will happen to me?”, we can ask, “What can I do today to make my future better?” That small change in thinking can make a big difference.

The idea of karma also teaches us that our actions matter. What we do today can shape our tomorrow. We may not be able to change everything that has happened in the past, and we cannot control everything that will happen in the future. But we can choose what we do today. We can be honest, work hard, help others, learn from our mistakes and keep moving forward. So, planning for the future is good, but constantly worrying about it is not.

Do what is in your hands and let go of what is not. Tomorrow will come when it comes. Our job is to make the best use of today. As the Gita teaches us, focus on your effort, not on your fear of the result.
