As Luck would have it!

So what is Luck? – it’s the most used word in our vocabulary as passively as it can be ! We remember ‘Luck’ when we fail inspite of our best efforts until then we are makers of our own destiny! Luck is often misunderstood as pure randomness, but it's better understood as unseen alignment — moments where timing, circumstance, and your own readiness meet perfectly. Free will, on the other hand, is your ability to choose your actions, thoughts, and responses.

For the spiritualists luck can be define as a beautiful Sanskrit verse

भाग्यं फलति कर्मणा — "Luck bears fruit through action."

The two are deeply connected: luck often opens a door, but free will decides whether you walk through it, and how prepared you are when it opens. A person may get a lucky opportunity, but without the will to act, it fades away unused. Similarly, someone with strong will but no lucky opening may struggle longer than needed. Luck, then, isn't a replacement for effort — it's the invisible wind that either supports or slows the boat you are already rowing.

So how do you feel luck operating in your life? It usually shows up as ease — things falling into place with less resistance than expected, the right person appearing at the right time, or an obstacle dissolving unexpectedly. It's less about jackpots and more about smoothness.

Luck operates quietly through timing and openness: when your mind is calm and alert rather than anxious or closed off, you naturally notice and use lucky openings that a distracted or fearful mind would simply miss. In this sense, luck can indeed be "manifested" — not by wishing passively, but by cultivating calmness, gratitude, and readiness, so that when a favorable moment arrives, you're actually in a state to recognize and receive it. The Rig Veda touches on this idea of fortune gently:

भद्रं कर्णेभिः शृणुयाम देवा भद्रं पश्येमाक्षभिर्यजत्राः।

"O divine ones, may we hear and see only what is auspicious and good." It's a prayer for the mind to stay tuned toward goodness — which itself invites good fortune.

Can everyone be lucky? In potential, yes — but not everyone experiences it equally, and this isn't unfair, it's contextual. Luck tends to favour those who are prepared, present, and open-hearted, because they can actually use what comes their way. Someone weighed down by constant worry, resentment, or rigid thinking may have the same opportunities pass by unnoticed or unused. Also, luck isn't evenly distributed across time — it ebbs and flows in seasons, much like weather. A person going through a difficult season isn't "unlucky forever"; they may simply be in a quieter phase before things shift.

Finally, how do you know how lucky you are? Don't measure it by isolated big wins or losses — measure it by pattern. Notice how often life meets your genuine effort with some support: a small break here, an unexpected help there. If you look back and see moments where "something worked out better than you could arrange yourself," that's luck quietly present in your story. True luck is rarely loud — it's the gentle thread running beneath a life that keeps moving forward, even though hardship.

So next time, you want to invite those ‘Lucky Chances’ in your life after you have done your bit of hard work and thorough preparation – all you need is to sit down and Pray to that Great design – the creator of your destiny to qualify you for his Mercy …that radiance of energy if bestowed on you would shine as luck for all of your problems and life’s questions will start to have meaningful answers…. As they say ‘as luck would have it…”!
